The Potsdam Feeling in autumn
When the days get shorter again, the warming autumn sun sets the scene for Potsdam's UNESCO World Heritage and lets the palace landscape shine. Long walks on the banks of the Havel or through the parks refuel your depots for the winter. A trip to Potsdam's cultural scene and a foray through the museums are also an essential part of an autumn break.
The opening of the new museum “Das Minsk Kunsthaus in Potsdam” was initially planned for spring 2022. Now, on 24 September 2022, the day has finally come. The house steeped in history, will open to the public with two exhibitions: “Wolfgang Mattheuer: Der Nachbar, der will fliegen (The Neighbor Who Wants to Fly)” and “Stan Douglas: Potsdamer Schrebergärten (The Allotment Gardens of Potsdam)“. The former terrace restaurant “Minsk”– built in the 1970s in modernist style of the GDR (East Germany) – starts a new era as a place to experience modern and contemporary art. In the future, works of art from the former GDR (East Germany), part of the Hasso Plattner Collection, will be displayed here in a new context.
The apple is the German’s favourite fruit of the Germans. During the Apple Festival of the Volkspark and in the Russian Colony Alexandrovka, experienced pomologists will guide visitors through the diversity of apples.
Workshops, guided tours and all kinds of culinary delights await visitors 17 to 18 September at the Russian Colony Alexandrovka and 1 to 3 October at the Volkspark Potsdam.
The functions of this year´s winter opera of the “Schlosstheater des Neuen Palais” theatre are also worth to be kept in mind. On 7 dates in November, the comic opera “Il matrimonio segreto” from Domenico Cimarosa will be performed in the setting of one of the most beautiful baroque theatres still in existence.
