Potsdam Celebrates Film: Three Festivals Showcase the Diversity of the Film City
Potsdam is not only a place of great stories, but also a place where stories are told – with cameras, light, and vision. With the renowned Studio Babelsberg, the Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF Film University, and a vibrant film scene, Brandenburg’s state capital is a magnet for creatives from around the world. This spring, three outstanding film festivals once again highlight Potsdam’s special significance as a city of film: the Sehsüchte International Student Film Festival, which opened yesterday, the Jewish Film Festival Berlin Brandenburg, and Green Visions Potsdam.
Sehsüchte – Europe’s Largest International Student Film Festival
From April 23 to 27, the Sehsüchte Film Festival, organized by students of the Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF Film University, offers a platform for emerging international filmmakers. What makes it unique: creative freshness meets professional craftsmanship – bold storytelling, innovative themes, and global perspectives define the program. The festival atmosphere is as lively as it is experimental, with panels, Q&As, and concerts surrounding the red carpet for the filmmakers of tomorrow.
Jewish Film Festival Berlin Brandenburg – Exploring the Diversity of Jewish Life
From May 6 to 11, the Jewish Film Festival Berlin Brandenburg (JFBB) will spotlight the diversity of Jewish identities. As Germany’s largest Jewish film festival, it presents exceptional feature films, documentaries, and shorts from around the world in Potsdam and the surrounding region. Whether historical narratives, personal biographies, or social debates – the JFBB opens a window into Jewish culture past, present, and future. Alongside film screenings, the festival emphasizes dialogue: panel discussions, film talks, and encounters with filmmakers invite open exchange.
Green Visions – Where Sustainability Meets Cinema
The newest of Potsdam’s festivals, Green Visions, will take place from May 22 to 25. It centers on ecological, social, and economic sustainability – told through powerful cinematic storytelling. Green Visions demonstrates how film can not only raise awareness but also drive change. The selection spans international documentaries on climate activism to fictional works about social justice. Workshops, discussion formats, and a market for sustainable living make the festival a place for inspiration and sustainable action – within the film industry and beyond.
