Naturally Potsdam! Where Ideas Grow.

In 2025, Potsdam is launching its new communication campaign: "Naturally Potsdam! Where Ideas Grow." In the first year of this three-year campaign, Brandenburg’s capital city focuses on Potsdam as a green event destination. Nestled among vast UNESCO parks, between Italian architecture and English landscape gardens, the city offers unique opportunities for events and conferences in nature.

Here, where Albert Einstein revolutionized the world with his theory of relativity, Potsdam remains a center of scientific innovation to this day. More than 50 renowned research institutes, including the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), and the Research Institute for Sustainability (RIFS), shape the city into a place where knowledge grows and continuously evolves.

Potsdam offers a variety of venues, both large and small, that allow for meetings and conferences in harmony with nature. A view of the Havel River, a fresh breeze, and the city’s inspiring backdrop make Potsdam a venue that broadens horizons. Whether by the water, in the Orangery Palace of Sanssouci, or among palm and pomegranate trees – Potsdam invites you to step outside the meeting room and work where ideas can truly flourish.

35 Years of Potsdam’s UNESCO World Heritage – Preserving the Past, Shaping the Future

Since December 12, 1990, the palaces and gardens of Potsdam and Berlin have been UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Over centuries, the Hohenzollern dynasty shaped Potsdam into a radiant royal residence, where some of the most significant architects and landscape designers left their mark. In this anniversary year, three important sites will offer new experiences:

  • The Marble Palace with a newly designed multimedia exhibition
  • The reopened Palace on Peacock Island
  • Cecilienhof Palace, digitally accessible during its renovation

Peacock Island Palace – A Hidden Gem Returns

After six years of restoration, the Palace on Peacock Island will shine in new splendor starting in the summer of 2025. The romantic retreat of Frederick William II is being restored to its original 1794 state. The Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg (SPSG) will accompany the reopening with guided tours, workshops, and scenic walks.

80 Years of the Potsdam Conference – Discover Cecilienhof Palace Digitally

The 80th anniversary of the Potsdam Conference commemorates the historic 1945 meeting of the Allied powers. While Cecilienhof Palace undergoes restoration, the exhibition remains digitally accessible: Virtual tours through the historic rooms are available via Google Arts and Culture.

Marble Palace – Experience History Interactively

King Frederick William II had the Marble Palace built as a royal summer residence on the shores of Holy Lake (Heiliger See). Antique sculptures, Italian marble fireplaces, exquisite wooden floors, silk wall coverings, and intricate furniture, combined with the elegant neoclassical architecture, create a remarkable ensemble in Central Europe.

Starting in the summer season of 2025, new multimedia features will turn the Marble Palace into an engaging educational experience, making history come alive. Political and societal issues from Frederick William II's reign will be showcased in an engaging and accessible way.

35 Years of German Reunification

In 2025, Potsdam celebrates 35 years of German reunification – a milestone that has shaped the city in lasting ways. Once a border city between East and West, Potsdam became a symbol of transformation and unity.

For an insightful journey into the Cold War era and stories about the border between Potsdam and West Berlin, visitors can explore the digital Potsdam City Guide Tour "Achtung Grenze" (Attention, Border!).

Today, Potsdam connects its rich history with forward-thinking tourism, blending World Heritage, innovation, and sustainable experiences to create a truly unique destination.
